GUIDE · ANIMATED SVG

One small file
that plays itself.

An animated SVG is a vector image with its motion inside: drop it into a web page as an image and it plays, with no player, no JavaScript and no video file. Ilo Animation writes it from your own design, with the motion as CSS keyframes inside the SVG.

01 — WHEN TO PICK ANIMATED SVG

Animated SVG, Lottie or video?

ANIMATED SVG

For websites, zero setup

Use it like any image (an img tag, a CSS background, a website builder's image block). Best for icons, logos, hero graphics and loaders.

LOTTIE

For apps and controlled playback

Needs a Lottie player, and gives you play, pause and scrubbing from code, on the web and in iOS and Android apps.

MP4 · WEBM · GIF

For social and video

Pixels instead of vectors, for Instagram, TikTok, chats, slides and video editors.

All of them come from the same animation in Ilo Animation: export as many as you need.

02 — HOW TO MAKE ONE

Three steps.

  1. 01

    Open your artwork

An SVG, an Illustrator .ai or a PNG at ilotools.com/app, or your open document in the Illustrator panel.

  2. 02

    Animate

Magic for a first take in one click, then the library and the timeline to make it yours.

  3. 03

    Export SVG

Export › Animated SVG: one file, transparent background if you choose it, looping like your preview.

03 — QUESTIONS

Good to know.

Does the animated SVG need JavaScript?

No. The motion is written as CSS keyframes inside the SVG, so it plays in every modern browser by itself.

Can I convert an animated SVG to GIF or MP4?

Yes, from the same animation: export GIF, MP4 or WebM next to the SVG. See SVG to GIF and MP4.

Will it work in Webflow or Framer?

Yes, as an image file: upload it wherever the builder accepts SVG images. Some platforms, such as WordPress, block SVG uploads unless you allow them.

What does it cost?

Animating is free online; exporting starts a 5-day free trial with every feature and no card. See pricing.
